Listen, Chinese weightlifters don't do it just to look cool. Panda pull really helps with technique, speed, and transfer of that speed technique  to actual lifts. 

I haven't seen any good online advice on teaching this movement, so please allow me to share my experience.

As a weightlifter you should strive to achieve good level of endurance  early in the winter preparatory phase (far away from major competition,) and maintain it throughout the year. Higher level of endurance might (indirectly) improve your results on the platform.

Coach had no idea why anyone would ever externally rotate.  When someone mentioned externally rotating overhead, he stuck one of his arms out overhead rotated outward to try out what we meant, shook his head, and mimed an average Instagram bench press-style jerk. All he had to say was “no no.”
